BAFTA Film Awards 2019 live: All the news, gossip and exclusives

It’s BAFTAs time again.

Joanna Lumley returns to host for the second year in a row, while the biggest names in UK cinema and beyond are descending on the Royal Albert Hall tonight to find out which films and performances the British Academy of Film and Television Arts has picked as the best of the past year.

We’ll be updating this article with all the news, winners and gossip from the ceremony, red carpet and winners press conference as it happens, so don’t forget to refresh this page or check back throughout the night.

13pm: Roma takes Best Film!

9.11pm: Chiwetel Ejiofor is announcing the final award – Best Film.

9.10pm: “As far as I’m concerned all three of us were the lead,” but she’ll scratch Rachel Weisz’s and Emma Stone’s names in it later.

9.06pm: Last year‘s Actor in a Leading Role winner Gary Oldman reveals this year‘s Actress in a Leading Role winner.

8.59pm: In other news, fans think Cate Blanchett has turned the BAFTAs into a surprise MCU crossover by wearing the Infinity Stones around her neck.

8.58pm: Roma is heating up as Alfonso Cuarón wins the Director award.

8.55pm: Salma Hayek tells a joke about not telling a joke, but really she’s just celebrating the diversity of the Directors shortlist.

8.53pm: The Favourite does it again! This award can sit next to its Make-Up and Hair BAFTA from earlier in the evening.

8.51pm: Eddie Marsan takes a swipe at Brexit as he joins Cynthia Erivo to unveil the Costume Design award winner.

8.47pm: Sophie Okonedo and Thandie Newton reveal that Roma has scored the Film Not in the English Language award and its second award of the night.

8.44pm: Black Panther beats its MCU classmate Avengers: Infinity War to scoop the award.

42pm: Rocketman’s Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Taron Egerton are presenting the Special Visual Effects BAFTA.

39pm: Riz Ahmed and Rachel Brosnahan announce who wins among the “dreamy, wonderful, sexy, gorgeous beings” nominated for Outstanding Debut. It’s Lauren Dark and Michael Pearce of Beast!

8.07pm: Regina King and Luke Evans are here to present the “upcoming threat” award, by which they mean the EE Rising Star BAFTA.

8.04pm: Rachel Weisz comes out ahead of her Favourite co-star Emma Stone to take the first acting award of the night.

01pm: Mary J Blige and Ellen Page are about to announce the winner of the Actress in a Supporting Role. Blige, incidentally, is twice as tall as Page.

7.56pm: Bill Nighy presents producers Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley with the Outstanding Contribution BAFTA.

7.50pm: The Favourite wins Make-Up and Hair – its third award of the night.

7.46pm: Rock-climbing film Free Solo (not a Star Wars spin-off) bags the Documentary award.

7.44pm: Lucy Boynton and Joseph Fiennes are announcing the Documentary and Make-Up and Hair winners.

7.42pm: And the BAFTA for Editing goes to Adam McKay’s Dick Cheney biopic, Vice.

7.39pm: Henry Golding and Eleanor Tomlinson announce Bohemian Rhapsody’s first award of the night, in the Sound category.

7.35pm: And Isaacs also announces 73 Cows for British Short Film.

7.32pm: Jason Isaacs announces Roughouse for British Short Animation.

7.27pm: And in a two-for-one, Kurylenko and Collins also announce The Favourite for the Production Design award.

That’s two out of two awards for Yorgos Lanthimos’ movie so far.

57pm: First Man’s Claire Foy was called ‘Brian May’ as a child because they had “similar hair”. It may be early, but we’re guessing that’s the best fact we learn all evening.

5.33pm: Edith just asked Johnny Flynn about his controversial David Bowie biopic.
