Charges pending against driver who crashed into Waynesboro business

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) — A vehicle slammed into a Pro Nails in Waynesboro Monday afternoon, leading to extensive damage.

According to police, a 78-year-old Nelson County woman was parking in front of the business around 3 p.m. when she accidentally accelerated and smashed into the building, hitting one employee inside before coming to a rest near the rear wall of the salon.

Charges are pending against her.

The employee struck by the SUV was a 45-year-old Staunton woman who suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Augusta Health before being released.

Police estimate at least $80,000 worth of damage to the nail salon and $5,000 of damage to the 2013 GMC SUV involved in the crash.

“I thought a bomb had went off. I went running outside, came on the side of the building, I didn’t see nothing,” said Patty Duncan, Manager with McAlisters Deli. “Then I ran around the front and I said oh my god, somebody just ran into the shop next door. So I ran over there to make sure that everybody was okay.”

Police investigation into the crash continues.
