This is the incredible moment a man is perilously close to a 14-foot-long great white shark stranded in shallow waters outside his home.

Dale Pearson waded into the Sea of Cortez, Mexico, on May 27 after he spotted what he initially thought was a hammerhead shark.

Video captures the moment he soon realizes he’s standing just a few feet away from the animal with the highest recorded number of fatal attacks on humans.

Pearson and his friend, Eric Mack, first believed the shark to be a hammerhead shark before realizing its massive size

Video captures the moment that they slowly approach the shark in the shallow waters (pictured, Pearson in front of the great white shark). The two assumed it had been caught in a gill net before noticing two huge propeller wounds on its back

When Pearson and his friend, Eric Mack, realized that what they were witnessing was a great white, they are clearly stunned.

‘That’s a f white shark,’ Pearson says in the video. ‘Holy s!’

According to Pearson, the shark wasn’t stuck, and swam in and out of the shallow water several times.

Pearson and Mack first believe the mammoth creature has been caught in a gill net before noticing two huge propeller wounds on its back.

Deciding the shark isn’t stuck but feeding on stingrays as it circles through the water that is no more than three-feet deep, Pearson gets an up-close look before the predator flashes its razor sharp teeth.

At one point Pearson shows how close his house is to the animal – no more than two miles away.

‘To see such a huge shark in basically my front yard was quite unnerving,’ he said.

Marine biologists say the shark (pictured) will not die from its injuries and that it is very likely it was hunting for stingrays

Pearson at one point points the camera towards his house (pictured), which is no more than two miles away from the massive shark. ‘To see such a huge shark in basically my front yard was quite unnerving,’ he said

After watching the video, officials at the Marine Conservation Science Institute in California shared it on their Facebook page, explaining that ‘the injuries from the boat propeller would likely not kill the shark’.

‘They are exceptionally tough with incredible healing ability,’ the institute wrote last Thursday in a post.

Pearson believes that the shark ventured in to the shallow waters in order to hunt for stingrays. Mark Domeier, marine biologist and president of the institute, agreed.

‘White sharks are generalists (and scavengers) when it comes to diet,’ Domeier wrote on Facebook. ‘In other words they will eat whatever they want at that moment!’
