Manchester United have been linked with three different extremes here.
One is a former Liverpool midfielder who never quite made the grade at the club – which is a prospect which must be quite frightening to United fans.
Another is a midfielder available on the relatively cheap – just £1.8m. Quite why you’d quote United that low for so much as a pack of chewing gum is beyond us.
And the usual Koulibaly link is here.
All the latest gossip is available below.
Manchester United ‘track’ £1.8m-rated Norwegian midfielder
Manchester United are keeping tabs on Rostov midfielder Mathias Normann – according to reports.
Solskjaer wants to add to his midfield options after failing to replace Ander Herrera during the summer.
Goal report that United are tracking the 23-year-old who has made an impressive start to the new season in Russia.
Normann recently made his debut for Norway.
United linked Can says he’s unhappy
Emre Can might be a former Liverpool midfielder, but he’s been linked with a move away – with recent reports suggesting his club Juventus have offered him to Manchester United.
Italian media outlet Tuttosport claimed that Juve offered Can and Mario Mandzukic to United, and the German himself, while on international duty, that he’s unhappy at his club.
“I’m not happy [at Juventus ] right now. I don’t play much at the moment.
“Last season I played a lot. Especially in important games for Juventus. And I also played well there.
“I haven’t had a chance this season.
“But now I think, when I come back to the club, I will get chances again.
“I am definitely grateful to Joachim Low. Because I didn’t play much in the club and he invited me anyway.
“Nevertheless, he gave me the chance. That’s why I was simply happy that I played again.”

Koulibaly on United transfer rumours
Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has played down speculation that he will leave the Serie A side, amid reports that Manchester United are chasing his signature.
United bolstered their defence in the summer with the club-record capture of Harry Maguire from Leicester City but are keen to strengthen further, with Koulibaly reportedly identified as the ideal partner for the England international.
28-year-old Senegal international Koulibaly would be an expensive recruit though and, as identified by his latest comments, he isn’t thinking about a move to the Premier League.
“I’m used to it. So many [stories] come out each day, which say I’m leaving. Right now, my only objective is to win with Napoli. I don’t care about the rest.
“Our objective remains to beat the best teams in Italy and win the Scudetto. This season is more difficult because all the teams have got stronger and Serie A has become more competitive.
“I haven’t made the best start to the season. Juventus remain the team to beat. For our part, we must work even harder, improving our game to get closer to them.
“Our objective is to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage as soon as possible. We started well by beating Liverpool with a top performance. We regret not beating Genk, but that’s football.
“We must think positively and be aware that we can do well. My objective is to help the club and team win a trophy now.”
