How To Master The Art Of Baking Makeup

Baking makeup gives perfectly flawless and poreless skin, not to mention a base that won’t budge. If you’re ready to try your hand at baking (and not the type that involves your culinary skills), follow these five foolproof steps for a full-coverage, long-lasting, airbrushed makeup look. 

1. Prep Your Skin

Since baking requires lots of powder under your eyes, ensuring your skin is well moisturised is vital to achieve a smooth and creaseless finish. As the skin around your eyes is more prone to dryness, applying an eye cream can boost hydration and reduce puffiness.  

2. Apply A Liquid Foundation 

If you want to master the art of baking, using a liquid foundation is a must as it is likely to minimise the risk of cakey-looking makeup. Bobbi Brown International Pro Makeup Artist Amy Conway stresses the importance of pressing the foundation into the skin with your fingers to melt everything in every crevice. 

3. Apply Concealer

Quality concealer is your best friend when it comes to masking imperfections such as dark circles.  Select a concealer that is no more than 1-2 shades lighter than your foundation to avoid the dreaded white circle around the eye area. Using concealer, draw an upside-down triangle underneath each eye and then blend until invisible and seamless.

4. Press Translucent Powder Onto Concealed Areas 

Dip a damp wedge sponge into your preferred translucent powder and apply directly to concealed areas with a generous hand. Let your powder-topped concealer set for a few minutes (this is the actual baking component) however you can leave the powder on the skin for longer if desired.

5. Lightly Dust Off Any Excess Powder  

Use a fluffy makeup brush to lightly brush away any excess setting powder on your face for a perfect result.

Voilà– you’ve baked your makeup.
