The stars of Love Island are known for being preened to perfection, but one has been forced to defend herself for being a bit too glamorous.

Amber Davies, who won the most recent reason of the ITV2 show, was quizzed by fans for wearing a full face of makeup while exercising.

As part of her Instagram story, Kem Cetinay’s ex-girlfriend, 21, said her skin was ‘used to sweating’ because of her background as a dancer, and explained that she wants to look her best while she is working out.

But experts told FEMAIL that exercising while wearing full makeup can lead to clogged pores and skin irritation.

Celebrity facialist Debbie Thomas explained: ‘Generally it is best to not to wear makeup when exercising. When the body heats up the pores open and that is when makeup can get trapped in the pores amongst grime, sweat and pollution if outside.

‘If the skin is not cleansed thoroughly straight after exercising, the skin could then break out. It’s best to let your skin breathe when exercising.’

Amber Davies, 21, said she was sent messages from fans asking why she works out wearing full makeup

Taking to Instagram while still in her gym gear, Amber revealed that she’d received messages from fans who asked for her advice about wearing makeup in the gym.

She said that makeup was part of her ‘uniform‘ while she was working as a dancer before she found fame on Love Island.

Amber explained: ‘I’ve had some messages asking me: “Why do you train with a full face of make up on, surely it isn’t good for you?”.

‘I trained as a dancer, and it was uniform to wear a full face of makeup, so my skin is used to sweating.’

The Love Island beauty said she is trained as a dancer and used to have to wear makeup as part of her ‘uniform

Experts said that exercising with makeup can block the pores and cause skin irritation

Amber went on to say that she knows the choice isn’t good for her skin, but she does it to feel confident while working out.

She continued: ‘I can’t say it’s amazing for your skin, but I am a strong believer that if I look at myself in the mirror, and I feel confident then I will work out better. But obviously, each to their own.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Amber for further comment.

Amber recently broke up with Kem Cetinay who she met during the last season of Love Island

Amber has discussed how she turned to alcohol to cope with her heartbreak following her split from Kem

Room for a reunion? Kem previously hinted he and Amber could rekindle their relationship, as he commented: ‘It ended very amicably… I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, but we’re having some space right now’

Upset: Kem insisted he will ‘always care’ for Amber has been leaning on his pals for support in the wake of the break up and it was Cheryl’s beau Liam Payne who was first to text him to check in on the hunk when news of his split first surfaced

Amber recently opened up about her break up with Kem, who she met while they were both starring on Love Island over the summer of 2017.

She discussed how she turned to alcohol to cope with her heartbreak, deciding to go sober for January in a bid to clear her head and focus on herself following the painful break-up.

Amber admitted she was drinking too much before Christmas, explaining: ‘I definitely used alcohol as a coping mechanism. You drink, let your hair down, have fun. I should have powered through.’

Hoping to nurse his heartache, Kem has been throwing himself in to rehearsals for his Dancing On Ice debut (pictured with dance partner Alex above)

Revealing she was now doing ‘dry January’, she said: ‘I’m only 10 days in, I feel so refreshed and healthy.

‘When I drink, the next day I’m moping around, feeling sorry for myself. Now I’m up in the monring, I’ve got goals, I’ve got talks, I’m a lot happier in myself!’

Despite saying their relationship had ‘fizzled out’ due to their incompatible schedules and not spending enough time with one another, Amber hinted she may reconsider things in future.
