The woman who died in a one-vehicle crash near a north Minneapolis intersection was the mother of two.
Thompson, 38, was killed in the wreck Saturday night near Olson Hwy. and Penn Avenue N.
, the father of their 12-year-old son, Giovanni, said Monday.
“Shortly after she got off the phone [with her son], she got in the vehicle and got into the accident,” said Giovanni’s father, Chris Hill.
Hill said his son is “doing pretty well. He’s taking it like a champ.
Thompson, who lived about 6 blocks from the crash scene, was “a good person, and she loved her son to death,” he said.
Hill said Thompson is also survived by a daughter, 15-month-old Emma Rose.
Thompson was employed at a bar, but the state’s recent order for those and other businesses to close because of the coronavirus outbreak left her out of work, Hill said.
Thompson was heading east about 9:15 p.
m. on the Olson, when her SUV went off the right side of the road, crossed Penn Avenue, struck a fire hydrant and then a tree some distance away, said police spokesman John Elder.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
